Project type
Mixed Media Short Film
Date
2025
Role
Director, Writer, Editor
Buffalo Grass is a short film that explores memory, mortality, fragility and spirituality. Following a man’s journey as he confronts the loss of his partner, the film speaks to matters of human experience.
Constructed through a mixed-media approach, Buffalo Grass weaves beautiful animated textures into the coldness of reality, representing the unstable and fluid nature of memory. Instead of seeking answers to unsolvable questions, the film focuses on sensations, on what is present, and how we process emotions that defy words.
A graduate project of director Andrew Tan, Buffalo Grass reflects a deep engagement with his maturity, life understanding and media practice. With deep references to his previous work, the piece stands as a symbolic gesture of closure, marking the culmination of his studies.
The film brought together a team of over 20 creatives, working to achieve an intimate and personal story that resonantes deeply with its audience. Connecting over borders and timezones, it’s a testament to the eagerness and commitment.
The best is yet to come.
